It’s Cookout Season!
There’s nothing more ubiquitous to cookouts than BBQ sauce. However, finding condiments that conform to a low-iodine diet can be extremely difficult. This is because many common condiments, like barbecue sauce, have iodine-containing preservatives. So, we decided to share our favorite homemade BBQ sauce recipe that adheres to a low-iodine diet!
BBQ Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
2 cups No salt ketchup (Heinz makes this)
¼ cup Cider vinegar
2 T Honey
1 T Mustard seed (ground, if desired)
¼ cup Brown sugar
1 tsp Kosher salt, or non-iodized table salt *
1 tsp Garlic powder
1 tsp Onion powder
* Use kosher options.
Yields enough for 10–12 servings.

Preparation
Mix all ingredients together in a pot.
Simmer on low heat stirring occasionally. After about 20 to 30 minutes, sugar should be fully dissolved and ingredients should be well blended.
Let cool then transfer to a jar. You can store this in the refrigerator for 8–12 weeks.
