Cancer affects everyone differently. Some people find it encouraging to read about another person’s cancer journey—it can also be empowering to share your own story. Each April, in honor of Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, we share incredible patient stories from past years. Here are just a few accounts from cancer survivors.

Bicycle - Cyclo-cross

Judith relates the importance of reaching out for advice and assistance and how she discovered an extensive support network that continues to enrich her life today. She shares her journey to recovery, including readjusting to her new eating routine and returning to cycling, one of her favorite activities.

Family - Head and neck cancer

Read how Mike harnessed positivity and his sense of humor to help him through cancer treatment. He states, “I had no control over my cancer or the effects of the treatment, but I had complete control over how I would deal with it. I made the conscious decision to approach treatment with a positive attitude and a sense of humor. I always had a smile on my face and thanked people who cared for me. This made a remarkable difference in my journey. My positivity was returned in kind during each treatment and at every single follow up to this day.”

Face - Forehead

Marie’s story inspired us. She talks about her laryngectomy, the surgical removal of the voicebox and how she found her voice again.
